How Do I Choose the Right Repair?

Unsure about which repair you need?

The Original Boot image below features hotspots. Select a hotspot to see what that part of the footwear is called and which repairs are available for it.

Cleaning and Conditioning

This service service cleans, conditions, polishes, paints and sanitises as necessary. It's available at a discount if purchasing another repair service.

Sole

When the footwear tread is worn and needs to be replaced, we'll replace it with a Vibram sole. See the section below called 'What is a Vibram resole?'.

Welt

A welt is a thin piece of rubber or leather that runs around the perimeter of the footwear. It can either be glued (this is called a mock welt) or stitched onto the footwear and provides a flat platform for any midsole or tread to be attached.

Eyelets and other Upper Repairs

We can repair or replace parts of the upper footwear, including eyelets, lace hooks, gussets and heel linings. We also do bespoke stitching repairs.

What is a Vibram Resole?

Vibram is the most popular aftermarket sole provider in the world, and for good reason! We only use high quality Vibram soles and have carefully chosen the right soles to replicate the original look of your footwear as close as possible.

The photos on each resole option are genuine examples of the sole units that we will use for your resole, this gives you an honest representation of how your footwear will look once repaired.

If more than a resole is required to adequately repair your footwear, then a new welt or new rand will need to be added, depending on the footwear's design.

What is the difference between a rand and a welt?

A welt is a thin piece of rubber or leather that runs around the perimeter of the footwear. It can either be glued (mock welt) or stitched onto the footwear and provides a flat platform for any midsole or tread to be attached.

A good example of this design is the Timberland Original 6-Inch Boot.

A rand does not effect how the sole is attached, but simply is used to protect more of the upper material (leather for example) of the footwear. A tread and midsole can be completely replaced with ease, although a
rand is sometimes required if the previous sole protected/covered more of the upper material. A rand can also go around the entire perimeter of the footwear, or can commonly be seen just on the toe or heel.

A good example of this design is the Timberland Euro Hiker Boot.

Other options are available should you wish to customise your resole. A rand can almost always be added to a welted repair if the welt is being replaced, but not the other way around.
